tuesday things

Happy November and Happy Election Day! Did you vote? I did and felt like I was back in grade school stressing about properly filling in the bubbles on a scantron during a pop quiz. Nevertheless, there is no feeling more American than casting that ballot! (In case any of my fellow Dems need this after tonight: Chicken Soup for the Democratic Soul.) My polling location was so wonderful. The volunteers were friendly and they even had a table with coffee and donuts set out!

Isn’t the picture from my November calendar just perfect? Hard to believe my birthday is in two days – 30. Eeek! – I’m not sure what the celebration plans are, but I know that my mom, Kathy and Carin are coming in town and I’m promised that Saturday will be a lot of fun. I am just happy to have five days off!

tuesday things – five fall faves

Fall is 100% without a doubt my favorite time of year!  We’ve been lucky here in D.C. to have some early fall-like weather (despite the 90’s we’re supposed to reach this week) and the Pumpkin Spice latte came out early, so I am a happy girl! Here’s just a quick post to list some of my favorite things about the greatest season…

1. The start of football I love my Aggies and my Cowboys … especially when they both win, like this past weekend.

^^ Daisy loves the Aggies too! ^^

2. PSL – I already mentioned that I was happy the Pumpkin Spice latte came early. It is one my my favorite treats for fall! (I rarely let myself buy from Starbucks – or any coffee shop – since we have free coffee in my office.) Hard to believe she’s already ten – they grow so fast! #PSL10

3. Foliage – One of the biggest pros to living up here are the bursts of crimson, burgundy, pumpkin, mustard and bronze that come out during fall in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Last night I picked up some lovely fall-colored flowers at the grocery store to start the season early in our apartment :)

4. Holidays – Fall has the best holiday line up by far (Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving) and they all lead to Christmas which is my number one fave holiday! Speaking of Halloween, anyone have good costume ideas??

5. Fall food and drink – Think soups and stews, anything pumpkin, apple baked goodies, and warm drinks like cider, hot cocoa and mulled wine. Yum!! I had my first pumpkin beer of the season on Sunday night while Dave and I discussed the houses we’d seen that day – Of House and Home update coming later this week!

What do you love about fall?
Or do you have a different favorite season?

october fun

fall is coming to a close and i’ve hardly written about the season’s events…

the week after i visited chicago, my best friend emily came in town for her birthday. she experienced life in my cozy apartment and even slept on the bunk-beds! on emily’s actual birthday we had dinner with her parents, who were in town for their anniversary. we then went for drinks on our own before heading back to bayonne.

that next weekend i went to college station for a reunion with my pledge class. our goal was to act like we were 21 again… our bodies did not necessarily agree. the first night out i managed to lose my purse – cash, credit cards, id, phone, and lip gloss! luckily i got it back, but not until 24 hours later! we didn’t make it to the game but held down the tailgate fort like no other! it was so nice getting to see everyone. even three out of four of us out-of-staters were able to make it!

the next big thing was halloween, which was fun and festive with many homes and businesses going all out with decorations. apparently that’s the norm up here, but it was a first for me! don’t get me wrong, we decorate in texas but definitely not to the extent of people up here. we carved pumpkins and decorated the apartment as much as we could.

our little airline community had a party here in bayonne. our new roommate tim had just moved in and maritza’s sister came in town… add william to the mix (since he was at our apartment most of the weekend even though he lives across the street) and we had a full house! maritza and i dressed as ladybugs and her sister dressed as a cat.

after recovering, we spent the next afternoon in central park admiring the changing leaves and fall scents. we ate dinner near times square at a little italian place we found back in june on our first night in the city together – bella vita. they have the best garlic knots i’ve ever had and a great selection of pastas, salads, and pizza.
