Hooray! It’s Friday and I couldn’t be happier. For being such a short month, February has had THE longest weeks. Here’s a quick Insta-recap of what’s been happening lately.

We had a snow day…

^^ Queen Vic – a bar near us – was serving a special bourbon hot chocolate. Yum. ^^

^^ Star & Shamrock – another bar near us, see a trend? – had bingo night so we trudged in the snow to play! ^^

Daisy is loving this #snowday!

^^ Daisy surprisingly liked playing in the snow. ^^

Then we had a “fake Spring” weekend …

^^ These little pretties popped up in our back yard! ^^

Then we had more snow …

^^ My pretties went into hibernation. ^^

^^ During the “fake Spring” weekend, I met my girlfriends for brunch at a new cheese/wine bar, Sona Creamery. These are a few of my favorite things… ^^

^^ For Valentine’s Day, Dave sent me those beautiful roses at work – just stunning. Then that night he whipped up a delicious meal of lamb (my favorite meat!) with mint crème fraîche, spicy asparagus and truffle cheese mashed potatoes followed by strawberries dipped in chocolate. Oh and we had wine! Obviously. ^^

Even though it’s been dragging, February was a great month filled with love. (And figure skating mixed with a little slope style.)

Are you ready for March? I’m just ready for temps above freezing …

tuesday things

I know I am posting very late today and you probably won’t read this until tomorrow, but for me it’s still Tuesday. So without further ado…

1. We came home yesterday to find this sweet gift in the mail from my Aunt Bev and Uncle Ron. I’ve been wanting these nesting measuring bowls for a while actually, and the towel fits in nicely with the rest of the green in our kitchen. How thoughtful!

2. Speaking of nesting, here’s a peak into some of the decor around the home. It’s still a work in progress, but the final touches will be in the living room along with some various spots around the house that need an objet d’art or deux. The living room is almost fully furnished – our chairs should get here on Friday! – and then the only BIG thing left will be to refinish the furniture in our master bedroom. If that ever actually happens, I will be a happy girl!

3. Our neighborhood library recently underwent a renovation and re-opened yesterday. I haven’t been yet, but looking at these pictures makes me even more excited to go than I already was. LOVE the archways and doesn’t that fireplace look cozy??

4. I just started reading The Paris Wife, which is about Ernest Hemingway’s first wife Hadley. I love using my kindle because it’s just one item to carry around that can hold all of the books I could even consider reading at one time, making it perfect for commuting! The DC library system has an e-book loan program so I don’t need to visit #3 for books, but it still looks like a nice place to read. Next on my list is either the Harry Potter series (I know, I am waaaaay behind) or The Hunger Games (only slightly behind.) What books are y’all reading??

5. Facebook has been alive for ten years – TEN YEARS! And it’s been in my life for nine and a half of those years. That’s just crazy. Did any of you fall into the trap of sharing your Facebook movie with a recap of your activity on the site? I sure did! (I’d share it here, but I can’t figure out how.)

Love, The Greatest of All Things

Happy February, y’all! On Saturday I thought about my New Year’s post and tried to keep the same resolve for channeling that joie de vivre on a monthly basis rather than waiting for the start of a new year. It was a productive and fun-filled day that started with an early trip to the DMV. Now that I have a true permanent D.C. address, I felt that it was time to trade in my Texas license.

I have to say that this was definitely a moment of reflection and loss mixed with a twinge of excitement for all the wonderful memories to be made in our new home. (Don’t worry though, it’s just a piece of plastic with an address printed on it –  Texas will always be my “home!”)

That afternoon Dave and I took a trip to Union Station for some errands and accidentally ended up eating there because we were too hungry to wait until we got home. While we were there I called my dad to wish him happy birthday, and he wondered where we were going since we were at the train station. It was a bit odd, but Union is actually home to several stores and also a lot of eateries ranging from food court style to a couple nice sit-down restaurants. Dave got a new phone from the Verizon store and some work shirts from Jos. A Bank, while I was able to pick up foundation from MAC.

The walk each way is one mile, and once we got back home we went on another walk to take Daisy to Lincoln Park since it was also her birthday! She had a lot of fun running around, but also took a moment to stop and smell the “roses.” :)

We ended the day with a football movie marathon (Remember the Titans, We are Marshall and Invincible) and tears. Lots of tears!

Finally (since you know I love calendars) I want to share with you my new pic for the month of February. I just L-O-V-E it! This month I challenge us all to give and receive love every day – whether it’s your family, friends, significant other or a total stranger – as love truly is the blessing of the greatest worth.

Also, you have my permission to eat all of the cookies.
