Of House and Home | Christmas Traditions

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I absolutely love fall, but Christmas is even better. Isn’t there something so lovely about a tree and twinkle lights? Generally I decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving because schedules seem to fill up quickly thereafter. It also gives me a solid four weeks to enjoy before going home to Texas for Christmas.

Over Thanksgiving, my dad and his girlfriend Jennifer came to stay, along with Dave’s mom. We were thankful to have family around to celebrate, eat lots of food and help put out the Christmas decor! Continue reading

Of House and Home: Holiday Table Settings

When I was a little girl, I set the table for family meals like it was my job. Well, it kind of was my job,  at least for the holidays, but I loved to do it! Eagerly referencing the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook table setting section, I just adored the various setting options ranging from simple to very formal and multiple ways to fold a napkin. (nerd alert)Much to my dismay, that section has pretty much vanished from the cookbook.

While planning our Thanksgiving table this year, I was nostalgic for the yellowed papers of the one owned by my parents since mine is a new version with very clean white pages and only one measly diagram on the topic. Alas, I was very pleased with how our table turned out, even if I forgot to put down the chargers for the meal and never did break out the crystal wine glasses.

Of House and Home: This is Fall

Happy Halloween! Dave loves this day. It is his absolute favorite holiday and he has rules about decorating in advance. It’s not allowed. (So just one rule, I guess.) By the time I get home from work this afternoon, my house will be covered in cobwebs and transformed into a garden for our party tonight: Halloween in the Garden of Good and Evil. Since fall decorations are technically different than Halloween decorations, I’ve still been able to spruce up the house a bit and incorporate my favorite season.
