Aside from pizza, a good burger (and fries) may be one of my favorite meals. It is so versatile and can reflect basically any cuisine you would like. So when my friend Jordan at Hard Rock Cafe DC asked if I wanted to come in with some friends and sample their new World Burger Tour menu, I practically jumped at the invitation.
Emails, picking dates, changing the plans, and so on and so forth … when finally the night arrived!
Rock our tastebuds we did. The World Burger Tour launched May 1 as a way to feature flavors and ingredients from the local markets of various cafes. HRCDC is featuring four international burgers along with the Legendary Burger and the DC Local Legendary Burger, the Washington Press. We tasted all six burgers, all three specialty fries and the five cocktails, also hailing from various places around the world. (More about the drinks and other headliner burgers here.)
In no particular order – my personal favorite was the schnitzel because it reminded me of where we were this time last year even though the burger represents Germany – here are the burgers we
inhaled tried. (Aren’t the little flags adorable?)
The Legendary Burger (worldwide) – Can’t go wrong with a burger that wears an onion ring hat with bacon and cheese!
Bosphorus Burger (Istanbul, Turkey) – This one came in as a close second for me with slow-simmered eggplant and yogurt sauce. Yum.
Schnitzel Burger (Cologne, Germany) – Pork schnitzel layered with bacon, tangy sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard is sheer genius.
Chamorro Burger (Guam, South Pacific) – Until I tried the Bosphorus and Schnitzel, I thought this island-inspired burger with pepper jack cheese, Chamorro glaze and chili paste would be my favorite. So I guess it came in third place?
Andean Burger (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) – Topped with a fried egg, this one has some of my burger topping faves with sliced avocado, cheddar and garlic mayo.
Local Legendary, the Washington Press (Washington, DC) – Talk about meat coma! Our local burger is jam packed with two four-ounce patties topped with pulled pork, monterey jack, cheddar and tangy bbq sauce.
Oh, and we can’t forget the very unnecessary but absolutely delicious desserts. (Now I want a hot fudge sundae …)
HRCDC was featuring live music in the bar area and after a little chat with the artist he surprised us with a couple requests, including one of my all time faves, Regulate. (Surprised by that?)
By the end of the night we formed our own burger-loving girl band!
With only three weeks left, the World Burger Tour is one show you don’t want to miss!
Thanks to Jordan and the entire team at Hard Rock Cafe DC for a wonderful evening with great food and rockin’ tunes!
