Better Late than Never

Hello, 2015! I realize I am about a month behind in officially welcoming this new year (we’ve already said goodbye to January and have moved on to February), but better late than never, right? For those that follow me on Instagram, you know that my Christmas was a little more eventful than planned. I didn’t quite get to all the post-writing and blog planning I had in mind …

So that happened (full story to come later) and it was awesome and such a wonderful surprise (yep, I am going to be Mrs. French!), but since that day I have been preoccupied with research and planning and venue visits and dress shopping. If there has been free time where I am not talking/thinking about the wedding, I’ve been too exhausted to even form a complete sentence.

Now here I am at the start of February finally getting down some goals for the year.

  1. Read – I love reading, yet tend to fill my time with more mindless internet/instagram/pinterest surfing instead of pulling out my Kindle. This year I am determined to read at least one book a month. Currently I am reading the fifth Harry Potter book, Order of the Phoenix. I’ll be sure to report back with my progress and thoughts on the books themselves!
  2. Write – This is another “love to do,” but it takes a back seat to all the “have to do”things, like cooking, laundry, etc. My goal is to simplify all the other stuff, deciding what’s truly important and how to speed up the process of certain tasks so that I have more time to do the things I love.
  3. Learn – Once we’re out of school, it’s easy to let learning new things take a backseat, so I am going to soak up some knowledge and brush up on skills, like photography and French. As a little girl, my favorite “toy” was my neon pink Concord 110 camera. In high school I took photojournalism and always wanted to continue in college, but the classes were limited to only certain majors. I’ve since upgraded to a DSLR and have taken a couple classes in DC. It would be great to take a multisession course, but for now, my goal is to practice, practice, practice. As for my French skills, I tried to keep up with them after college and actually used it personally and professionally while working as a flight attendant. Since moving to DC though it has fallen by the wayside. I am determined to pick it back up again and hopefully one day reach fluency again!
  4. Relax – With planning a wedding and life in general, this is easier said that done, but I’m tired of feeling like time is flying forward and life is just flashing by. So I am going to take at least one night every week or two and relax. I can work on any of the above resolutions, watch a movie or just …
  5. Be – Our society has taught us that we always need to do. In other parts of the world, people know how to just be one with ourselves and our thoughts. It is a difficult downshift from our race-like pace, but I know that I will be better off (more energy, more patience, more appreciation for life) if I can just BE.

I feel better already having gotten those thoughts down! What resolutions did you guys make? Share them in the comments below. And if you haven’t made any yet, it’s never too late to start.

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and that your year is off to a wonderful start. If you find that I’m not as present here as you would like, follow me on Instagram or Pinterest, where I am spending more time these days.

PS – Reverse resolutions that focus on discontinuing certain habits

Loved your goals for the year! I sent you a web site to help with the book a month. You will like the blog if you haven’t seen it. Bev’s
