Someday, Someone Might Call These “Grandma’s Meatballs”

My grandmother is one of my two favorite chefs, and something she does perfectly is Italian – probably because she is one! I have never made anything truly Italian other than pasta and yummy sauce. Last week I got the idea that I wanted to take the ground turkey that has been in my freezer for over a month and do something different with it. Usually I make stuffed bell peppers, one of the only things my mom ever made, but I was ready for a new challenge.

In the past couple days I made up my own recipe for meatballs, and tonight I brought my creation to life.  The recipe is a little different and I was a semi-concerned about how they would taste, but they are absolutely amazing! I’m very sad that no one is here right now to testify for me. Without further ado… here is the recipe. Honestly, the only thing I would add is shredded cheese. (I also thought about adding red wine, but I really wanted to drink it instead.) Feel free to test it out and let me know your thoughts!

MeLanie’s Meatballs
1.5 lbs meat (I used turkey, but you could change it up)
1 minced white onion
1/2 cup minced mushrooms
1.5 cup bread crumbs
3 eggs
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
3 tsp minced garlic
2 tsp basil
2 tsp oregano
2 tsp red pepper
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp clove

Roll into one or two inch balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Use a bake/broil combination until cooked and brown!

Once mine were done I put half in their own container and then simmered the other half in some pasta sauce.

As the Italians would say, "buon appetito!"
